Bean ("we", "our", or "the app") is a baby activity tracking application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address — used to create and authenticate your account.
- Password — securely handled by our authentication provider (Supabase); we do not store passwords in plaintext.
Profile Information
- Parent's name — optional, used for display purposes.
- Child profiles — name and avatar selection (animal icon or uploaded photo) for each child you add.
Baby Activity Data
We collect the activity data you choose to log, including:
- Feeding events — bottle feeding (amount, milk or formula type), breastfeeding (side, duration), and pumping (side, duration, amount).
- Diaper events — type (wet, dirty, mixed, dry), texture, color, and optional notes.
- Timestamps — when each event occurred.
Device Permissions
The app may request the following permissions:
- Microphone — used solely for on-device speech recognition to enable voice-based logging of baby activities. Audio is processed locally on your device using Apple's Speech framework and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers.
- Photo Library — used only when you choose to upload a profile photo for a child. Photos are uploaded to secure cloud storage associated with your account.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide core functionality — log, display, and organize your baby's feeding and diaper activities.
- Sync across devices — keep your data up to date in real time across your devices via cloud sync.
- Process natural language input — when you type or dictate a log entry, the text may be sent to a cloud-based AI service (Google Gemini, via a secure server-side function) to extract structured event data. Only the text of your input and the current time are sent; no personal identifiers are included in this request.
- Display Live Activities — show a breastfeeding timer on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island (iOS feature).
3. Data Storage & Security
- Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database and authentication platform. Data is associated with your authenticated user account and protected by row-level security policies.
- Local data is stored on-device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
- Profile photos are stored in Supabase cloud storage and accessible only to your account.
- All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
Your data may be processed by the following third-party services solely to provide app functionality:

5. Children's Privacy
Bean is designed to help parents and caregivers track baby activities. The app does not collect data directly from children. All data is entered by the parent or caregiver. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Child profile information (name, avatar) is provided and managed entirely by the parent/caregiver.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
- Your data is retained as long as your account is active.
- You can delete individual events within the app at any time.
- You can delete child profiles from the Profile settings.

7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data through the app at any time.
- Delete individual records or child profiles.
- Request account deletion and removal of all associated data.
- Revoke permissions (microphone, photo library) at any time through your device's Settings app.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
